Web optimization - what your business needs to know to succeed

Image Description

The internet is an important place for a business whether small or mega, digital, or brick-and-mortar.

The evolution of technology has also contributed to the evolution of search engine optimization (SEO) which helps increase online revenue for a business.

Search engine optimization is the process of improving your online presence to grant more exposure, increase user traffic, and solicit better-qualified clients.

75% of web searchers and potential consumers never go past the first page of search results which is why it is so essential for your business to climb to the top. By utilizing web optimization and SEO best practices, you help increase your site’s visibility in searches.

It is important to know a different approach to SEO can be required for an online versus a brick and mortar business.

If your business depends on local customers, your strategy and target reach will be different from a national or global online e-commerce business. Content is largely where the two differ.

For an e-commerce or affiliate site, the products/services are key to highlight whereas for a local business, information about your business and on what you want the user to do next - call, fill out a contact form, schedule an appointment, direct themselves to the business location - is critical.

First and foremost, align your content and funnel for connecting your customers to your business accordingly.

Here are six other simple and impactful best practices to keep in mind to achieve prime web optimization for your business:

 1. Keep mobile in mind

Around 90% of global Internet users use mobile phones to connect regularly. As a business, your website and its content needs to be able to adjust to different devices at any time.

There’s nothing worse than trying to purchase something or look up the address of a local business when the website’s page becomes illegible on your phone.

2. Optimize your images

Images can contribute to your site's overall SEO, boost organic traffic, and improve the overall user experience. Speed is equally an important SEO ranking skill with images taking a large percentage of page size.

Focus on file format and size compression before uploading. Then, when it comes to uploading the images, consider uploading through the backend of the website. Businesses deal with lots of images on their website and uploading images is super inefficient if you choose to do it manually.

Implement a coding structure in the server/database for larger scale image uploads to optimize overall performance and speed.

3. Find the right (key)words

Keywords are words or phrases relevant to your particular business that help searchers know what your site is all about.

Each page on your website should have a clear focus. Make sure to separate your pages and subsequently target separate keywords to direct customers to the exact page that gives them the information they’re looking for. Include your target keywords into the URL as well.

This will increase your chances of ranking higher in search results and up your SEO. Not sure where to start with generating keywords? Make a list of 30 keywords then verify on Google AdWords that they’re words frequently used in online searches.

4. Include compelling title tags and meta descriptions

When someone searches your business, the first thing they will see for your site are your title tag and meta descriptions. Title tags are the clickable headlines (often in blue font) that appear and are critical for SEO.

The title tag needs to be engaging and informative. Include your target worlds and keep it descriptive but concise. Recommended information to highlight includes your company’s name, information about a specific page, and your business's city or state.

Especially for a local business, many companies see improvements in local search rankings when including their city in title tags. The second most important tag on a page is a meta description.

This is a brief summary of a page displayed below the title tag (in black font). Meta descriptions do not impact search rankings as much as title tags, but they can influence click-through rates.

Again, these meta descriptions should include at least one keyword and more information on the city and state. Don’t overstuff the description with keywords, you want it to still sound natural, but make sure to provide an accurate summary of your business that is action-oriented and matches your search intent.

Internal links and backlinks can be key to ranking higher on searches. The more sites that carry links to your businesses’ site, the better. Ask the owner of a related site or partnered business to carry a link to your site and offer to carry a link to theirs in exchange.

A search engine, like Google, establishes an information hierarchy. The more backlinks, the more Google and consumers can understand the content of your business.

With that, it’s important to note not all backlinks are not the same and the quality of the links is very important. A link directing to your business’ website from a top tier publication will help you more than a smaller blog.

Focus efforts on building high-quality and authoritative backlinks to improve the chances of your target keywords and SEO.

6. Get social

Social media has evolved as another great ally to your business’ SEO strategy. Many of the apps and platforms double as search engines.

It’s important for a business to build out a solid social media profile across apps like Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Your company’s social media profile can also rank within the search results when people search for your business or related terms.

Millions of consumers have turned to the online marketplace for local goods and services. Without a strong website, it’s extremely hard for business owners to reach all their potential customer bases.

However, launching a great small business website is not a one-and-done. By following the steps above, mixed with diligence and fine-tuning, your business will see measurable results in your search engine position and website traffic.

  • Black Friday tablet deals 2021: the iPad, Fire and Galaxy Tab sales we're expecting

It's very likely that the Black Friday tablet deals this year could be the stars of the whole sale season, as we're expecting some fantastic discounts on Apple and Android slates, as well as accessories and cases for them.

The tablet deals for Black Friday 2021 could actually be great this year because lots of tech companies decided to launch debut slates this year to hit the home-working demand, so the selection will be even better than normal.

Black Friday this year falls on November 26, over a month away, but early Black Friday deals could start the reductions in about a months' time. In fact, there are some discounts already, though calling them 'Black Friday' ones would be a bit of a stretch. We've listed them below though.

Tablets can often be pretty expensive pieces of tech, especially given that unlike phones, they're definitely not necessary for everyday functioning. But they're useful extras for productivity, entertainment and creativity, so it can be useful to have one, and the Black Friday deals will make them easier to pick up.

The season may not be perfect for the latest, more premium tablets - we rarely see 'knock-your-socks-off' bargains on iPads, which sometimes get discounts of less than 10%. But Amazon's own tablets will probably match Prime Day prices (some might go lower). And even a penny off the price, is a penny saved for you.

Today's best tablet deals in the US

    Microsoft Surface Pro 7 | Wi-Fi | 128GB: $959 $599 (save $360) at Best Buy
You're getting loads of money off with this Microsoft Surface Pro 7 - we see deals on this product fairly frequently, but this is a match for the lowest price we've seen it at. It also includes the type cover, which many people regard as essential for the device. If you can't wait until Black Friday and want a good Windows tablet, this is a great choice.

    iPad mini (2019) | Wi-Fi | 256GB: $549 $449 (save $100) at Walmart
This isn't the newest iPad mini on the market, with a newer version that probably won't see many sales. The 2019 iPad mini will probably see lots of discounts since it's now a previous-gen model, but buying now ensures you don't miss out.

    Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 Lite | Wi-Fi | 32GB: $160 $129 (save $31) at Amazon
This is a super-affordable 8.7-inch Android tablet (despite the name, which suggests it has a 7-inch screen). It's not powerful and the screen doesn't look fantastic but it's a good-value low-cost slate that will be a useful extra screen for streaming media or browsing the web.

    Amazon Fire HD 10 (2019) | Wi-Fi | 32GB: $149 $99 (save $50) at Amazon
There's a juicy 1/3 off the price of this Amazon tablet. Sure, it's two years old, but given each generation is only a small improvement over previous one, you might not notice a difference. That's a good deal though we might see newer models brought to a similar price closer to Black Friday.

    iPad Pro (2021) | Wi-Fi | 11-inch | 128GB: $799 $749 (save $50) at Amazon
If you want Apple's newest Pro-level tablet, with the M1 chipset and in its 11-inch size, then Amazon's got a great deal for you. For the 128GB and 256GB versions, you can get $50, and that jumps up to $100 off if you want 512GB, 1TB or 2TB, though the prices are still much higher for those options.

    Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 | Wi-Fi | 32GB: $179.99 $229.99 (save $50) at Target
This low-cost Android tablet has a 7-inch screen and comes with 32GB storage. This kind of slate is useful for people who don't need loads of power, and just need a handy portable device, and that $50 off could be put towards a case or apps.

    iPad Air (2020) | Wi-Fi | 64GB: $599 $539 (save $60) at Walmart
The iPad Air 4 saw a few okayish discounts over Cyber Monday last year, but 2021 is where we're expecting some great sales since it's not brand new. This early discount is on a small-storage version of the tablet and it's a modest reduction, but buying now ensure you don't have to scramble in late-November.

    Lenovo Tab P11 | Wi-Fi | 128GB: $279.99 $219.99 (save $60) at Best Buy
Lenovo makes high-quality Android tablets, and this is a fairly affordable option from the company, especially thanks to its $60 reduction. It comes with lots of storage, unlike lots of other tablets on sale, and with the lower price you could buy a keyboard, case or stand to make it a useful work device.

    iPad Pro (2020) | Wi-Fi | 11-inch | 128GB: $799 $699 (save $100) at Target
The previous-gen iPad Pro - which is still super powerful and fully-specced, despite having a newer version out - is available for a temptingly-low price ahead of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. The 256GB version is also available for $100 off.

Today's best tablet deals in the UK

    Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 | Wi-Fi | 128GB: £619 £519 (save £100) at Currys
Samsung's premium Tab S7 from 2020 has a powerful processor, a good-looking screen and is now fairly affordable too. If you need a top-end tablet, it's a great choice, though look to see if the Tab S7 Plus is on sale too. The 256GB storage version is also available for £100 off from Currys.

    Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Plus | Wi-Fi | 128GB: £799 £679 (save £120) at Currys
This is arguably the best Android tablet you can buy right now with a giant high-res screen, a top-end processor, fast charging and more. Sure, its price makes it an iPad Pro rival, but the discount here makes it a lot more affordable. The 256GB version is £130 off too.

    iPad Air (2020) | Wi-Fi | 64GB: £579 £549 (save £30) at Amazon
While £30 off a year-old tablet isn't anything to write home about, there aren't many great iPad deals in the UK right now, so this is all we've got. Expect better deals when Cyber Monday rolls around. The savings bump up to a whopping £50 if you opt for the 256GB version.

    Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 | Wi-Fi | 32GB: £219 £175.81 (save £43) at Amazon
There's a fair amount of money off this small-form Android tablet at Amazon, though bear in mind the price of this slate jumps about quite a bit, and we've seen it for less. Still, if you want a Samsung slate for a low price, this is one of your few options currently.

    Microsoft Surface Pro 7 | Wi-Fi | 128GB: £915 £715 (save £200) at John Lewis
This £200 discount on the popular Windows tablet doesn't bring it down to an all-time-low price, as we've seen it about £70 cheaper on Amazon. However it's not at that price any more, and John Lewis' warranty may sweeten the deal.

    iPad (2020) | Wi-Fi | 32GB: £329 £299 (save £30) at John Lewis
John Lewis is reducing the price of the older entry-level iPad, which has since been replaced in Apple's line-up by the 2021 model. It's a modest reduction for a low-storage tablet, but this does bring the asking price under the £300 barrier.

    Lenovo Tab M8 | Wi-Fi | 32GB: £110 £89 (save £21) at Currys
This super-low-price Android tablet is an easy portable screen for basic tasks - it's a tiny bit old, but you probably won't mind, especially since it's one of the few sub-£100 tablets we're seeing ahead of Black Friday.

    Lenovo Tab M10 | Wi-Fi | 16GB: £110 £90 (save £20) at Argos
Admittedly this deal is very similar to the Tab M8 one shared above - the difference is that this tablet is bigger, but the deal is on the model with less storage. If you're a fan of external or cloud storage, this is a better choice, but if you don't want that hassle probably stick to the smaller slate, as it'll have more space for apps and downloads.

    iPad Pro (2021) | Wi-Fi | 11-inch | 256GB: £844 £799 (save £45) at Laptops Direct
This is a curious one: Laptops Direct is advertising a tablet with all the same specs as the current fifth-gen iPad Pro, though is labelling it as the third-gen tablet. We can only assume this is a typo, and you're actually getting the new model, which would make this a good deal since it launched for £1,099 earlier this year.

    Black Friday tablet deals: FAQ

When will the best Black Friday tablet deals start in 2021?

While early Black Friday deals kick off a week or two before the official day, which in 2021 lands on November 26, don't expect every tablet to get discounted early.

Judging by precedent, Amazon will offer discounts on its products ahead of Black Friday - that means Fire tablets, and Kindles, could get reductions early. But for other slates, like Samsung, Lenovo and Kobo models, you may want to wait until the proper weekend.

Sometimes, we see tablet deals hit on Cyber Monday instead, and that'll also be the best time for accessory discounts - think Apple Pencils, cases and the like.

What Black Friday tablet deals do we expect to see in 2021?

The biggest deals will probably be on Amazon's devices, judging by precedent: that means Fire tablets, Kids tablets, and Kindles. Each could see discounts of around 40%, on both the gadgets and any accessories you might want for them.

We might see fair discounts on many mid-range and cheap Android tablets, like those from Lenovo in particular, as the company has loads.

Opposite from Amazon, Apple's tablets often have pretty poor discounts, at least for new iPads. They'll often get 10% or 20% reductions which, especially for the top-end models, doesn't exactly make them that much more affordable. Older iPads sometimes see better discounts, but they sell out fast.

Should I wait for the Black Friday tablet deals?

So you're looking at a calendar, flipping the pages until November 26, and realizing there's quite a while until the sales. Should you go tablet-less until then, just to save a bit of money, or just buy one now?

Well, it depends why you want one. University term starts months before Black Friday, so if you're a student (or buying for one), you shouldn't wait. Likewise if you've got a creative project you need one for, or require a tablet for business, it's worth buying now.

It's only worth waiting until Black Friday if a tablet is something you want, but don't need. That includes if you've got an older slate which serves you well, but maybe struggles for certain tasks - keep on keeping on until the sales if that's the case.
